Noir Film 'Soho-ui Joe' Directed... Starring Hugh Jackman and Brad Pitt Rumored
Director Im Sang-soo, known for the films 'The Housemaid' and 'People on the Veranda,' is making his debut in Hollywood, USA.
According to film production company Yeolmae Entertainment on the 11th, Director Im will direct the noir film Soho Sins, co-produced by the American production company 2W Network. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Richard Vine, editor-in-chief of the world-renowned art magazine Art in America. It deals with the twisted lives and issues of sin within New York's art scene. Through a murder case where the wife of a wealthy art-loving couple is found shot dead, it reveals the ugly underbelly of high society. The novel was translated and published domestically last year, attracting much attention.
The film production budget is 33 billion KRW. Currently, Vine and Director Im are writing the screenplay. After pre-production in July, filming is scheduled to begin in the second half of the year. Leading actors such as Hugh Jackman and Brad Pitt are being considered. 2W Network, responsible for production, was founded by Donna Smith, a former vice president of Universal Pictures. She has been involved in the production of over 120 films including Schindler's List, Star Wars, and The Terminator.
CEO Smith commented on Director Im, saying, "I was very impressed by the elegant mise-en-sc?ne and creative cinematography he demonstrated in films like The Housemaid and The Taste of Money." She added, "Considering his unique character analysis and meticulous mise-en-sc?ne direction that runs through all his works, as well as his sharp perspective on modern society, I believe he is the most suitable director for Soho Sins."
