Yeongdeungpo-gu Anyangcheon Comprehensive Sports Belt Development Within Sight
Comprehensive Sports Infrastructure to Be Built on 70,000㎡ Site by Anyangcheon Riverside... Early Completion Targeted by First Half of This Year... Baseball Field, Artificial Turf Soccer Field, Hard Court Tennis Courts, Park Golf Course, Athletics Track to Be Developed... 15 Facilities Across 5 Sports with Total Investment of 6.8 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Anyangcheon area is being reborn as a multipurpose hub for community sports.
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyun Il) plans to establish a comprehensive sports belt along the Anyangcheon area, creating a representative community sports destination in Yeongdeungpo where residents can enjoy their preferred sports nearby, whenever they want.
The district announced that, anticipating a surge in demand for community sports as COVID-19 enters a stabilization phase in the second half of this year, it will respond to residents' needs by expanding public community sports infrastructure and integrating auxiliary facility management.
Since 2018, the district has steadily progressed with the project to develop the Anyangcheon riverside (around Yanghwa-dong 4-1) into an outdoor comprehensive sports belt, investing a total budget of approximately 6.8 billion KRW, and is accelerating completion aiming for early completion in the first half of this year.
By the end of last year, the district had developed one adult baseball field, one little league baseball field, one artificial turf soccer field, and an 18-hole park golf course on 37,676㎡ of the total 70,000㎡ construction area, achieving a progress rate of 53.8%.
This year, the district plans to add seven hard court tennis courts, one artificial turf soccer field, a two-lane athletics track, and another 18-hole park golf course, completing a total of 15 facilities across five sports. This will enhance resident satisfaction and expand the base of community sports by offering a scale and programs differentiated from sports facilities in other regions.
The hard court tennis courts began construction in October last year, completing lighting installation and ground compaction. However, due to winter conditions, acrylic paving was difficult to apply, and concerns about ground subsidence during the thaw period led to an unavoidable suspension of construction around mid-December.
Construction resumed in early March this year, with plans to complete acrylic paving and fence installation by the end of April without delay.
At the Galdae 3 Stadium, a total project cost of 1.5 billion KRW, including 450 million KRW in national funds and 412 million KRW in city funds, is being invested to build a multipurpose stadium featuring an international standard artificial turf soccer field and athletics track. The soccer field and multipurpose stadium are scheduled for completion by the end of June.
Additionally, around the tennis courts, the district will significantly expand resident convenience facilities such as a 100-space parking lot, temporary restrooms, and drinking fountains. A completion and opening ceremony aligned with the district mayor’s tournament schedule in the second half of the year is also planned.
Furthermore, aiming for 2023, the district is accelerating the construction of the Yeongdeungpo 3rd Sports Center within the Daerim 3 Retention Basin and the completion of the Yangpyeong-dong public complex facility, continuously striving to expand and operate indoor community sports facilities.
