Researcher Lee Seok-hoon and Others Selected as 'Masters of Analytical Science'
Korea Basic Science Institute Selected as Analysis Science Meister
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] The Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) selected Senior Researchers Seok-Hoon Lee and Hyung-Seon Shin as 'KBSI Analytical Science Meisters' on the 11th, a title signifying the highest masters in the field of analytical science.
The KBSI Analytical Science Meister system was established to foster the analytical science field, which forms the foundation for supporting basic science research. Researchers who have developed new analytical methods that had not been attempted before or contributed to improving the accuracy or precision of existing analytical methods are selected. Eligibility requires being a senior researcher with at least 15 years of experience using research equipment in the analytical science research field or having published more than 30 co-authored papers. In particular, candidates must receive recommendations from experts in the same equipment or application field to qualify for selection.
Senior Researcher Seok-Hoon Lee (Technical Support Team, Research Equipment Operation Department) has conducted research in the field of electron microscopy (EM) analysis since joining in 1989. He developed trace element analysis and light element analysis methods in the micron range of organic and inorganic materials, solving analytical challenges in new material development. He also innovatively improved the accuracy and precision of existing analytical methods.
Researcher Lee stated, "I want to emphasize that being recognized by experts walking the same path is meaningful as a result of faithfully performing the institute's core mission."
Senior Researcher Hyung-Seon Shin (Environmental Analysis Team, Research Equipment Operation Department) has developed new analytical methods that had not been attempted before, such as simultaneous analysis methods for mercury and arsenic using ICP-AES and ICP-MS, and inorganic element analysis of drinking water, through research in the ICP (trace inorganic element analysis) field since joining in 1989. He also developed ultra-trace sample analysis methods for various environmental samples. As a top expert in the ICP field, he has supported domestic ICP users by providing training on equipment and sample pretreatment methods and operating proficiency tests.
Senior Researcher Shin said, "I believe I was selected representing many analytical experts at the institute, and having been recognized by ICP field experts, I will continue to do my best to advance the domestic trace inorganic element analysis field."
