Kim Sam-yeol, Director of Admissions and Public Relations at Dong-Eui University, said, “Dong-Eui University has already selected four specialized fields closely related to regional industries: Smart IT Manufacturing Technology, Tourism and Convention, Korean Medicine Bio and Healthcare, and Public Administration and Social Welfare Services. We have established our own specialized project groups to expand support in these areas.”
Dong-Eui University is implementing educational innovation in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution and focusing on nurturing innovative talents who will lead future industries.
Selected in 2016 for the Ministry of Education’s PRIME Project (Leading University for Industrial-linked Education Activation) large-scale type, the university invested 40 billion KRW over three years, and in 2017, selected for the LINC+ Project (Leading University for Customized Industry-Academia Cooperation), investing 21.2 billion KRW over five years to introduce a collaborative education system emphasizing convergence and fusion.
Additionally, the university has reorganized colleges and academic structures, solidifying its position as a leader among regional universities in the 4th Industrial Revolution. Dong-Eui University also established a Big Data Artificial Intelligence Center within the LINC+ project group, and in July launched the Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center (with a total budget of 18.75 billion KRW over eight years, including 15 billion KRW from the national government, 1.5 billion KRW from the city, and 2.2 billion KRW from the university).
These two centers are working on securing original data, building big data analysis platforms, conducting AI and ICT convergence intelligent innovation research, and operating regional cooperative AI research and development (R&D) programs.
Dong-Eui University defines its ideal talent as “collaborative talents forming a forest together” and has branded its own education as “collaborative education.”
The university explains that collaborative talents are not only equipped with technical and major knowledge but also possess six core competencies: character and basic literacy, creativity and critical thinking, self-management, glocal (global and local) mindset, sharing, communication, convergence, and challenge achievement capabilities, representing integrative talents.
President Han Su-hwan of Dong-Eui University stated, “Dong-Eui collaborative education is a three-stage major education system consisting of Cornerstone Design in the first year, Keystone Design in the second and third years, and Capstone Design in the fourth year.” He added, “Through the PRIME Project, in 2019, we established Dong-Eui University’s own online learning support platform called DOOR, which has enabled efficient non-face-to-face classes amid COVID-19.”
