Gwangju City Operates Dedicated Respiratory Clinic
15 Installations at 13 Medical Institutions in 5 Autonomous Districts
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 8th that it will operate a ‘Respiratory Dedicated Clinic Project’ to minimize the treatment gap for patients with colds, sore throats, and fever after the spread of COVID-19, by treating respiratory patients in a separate space separated from general treatment rooms.
This project was promoted to protect the health of general patients and respiratory patients and to prevent the risk of cross-infection between medical staff and patients in advance.
In particular, the respiratory dedicated clinic has a separate flow space and patient waiting area from the entrance to the exit to minimize contact between respiratory patients and other patients.
Also, to minimize cross-infection between medical staff and patients, medical staff thoroughly wear personal protective equipment when treating patients.
The respiratory dedicated clinic is a fully government-funded project. Last August, 13 medical institutions were selected through a public contest by autonomous districts with the goal of installing 15 locations in the region. Starting with Nam-gu Baek Hospital in November, 9 additional medical institutions opened in December, and a total of 10 locations are currently operating.
Three more locations are scheduled to open this month.
Among them, Nam-gu Mirae Children’s Hospital and Gwangsan-gu Hanam Seongsim Hospital are integrated types with two or more treatment rooms installed within the hospital.
The clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays, and advance reservations are also possible.
If necessary after treatment, COVID-19 tests are conducted for patients with fever and respiratory disease symptoms, and patients with other upper respiratory infections, flu, and general respiratory disease symptoms can also receive treatment.

Park Hyang, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau of the city, said, “Through the respiratory dedicated clinic, treatment for fever, respiratory diseases, and COVID-19 is expected to be safer and more in-depth.” He added, “Citizens with respiratory symptoms can visit the local respiratory dedicated clinics with confidence to receive treatment, and we ask for strict compliance with quarantine rules such as wearing masks at all times and refraining from various gatherings and outings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
