Court Dismisses Paris Baguette Baker Workers' Status Confirmation Lawsuit
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] The lawsuit filed by Paris Baguette bakers demanding direct employment by the headquarters, Paris Croissant, was dismissed by the court.
The Civil Division 42 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Park Seong-in) dismissed the labor status confirmation lawsuit filed by about 180 Paris Baguette bakers against the headquarters, Paris Croissant, on the 8th.
Earlier, in September 2017, the Ministry of Employment and Labor judged that the Paris Baguette headquarters had employed bakers belonging to partner companies working at franchise stores in an illegal dispatch form by directly giving work instructions, and issued a corrective order to directly employ 5,378 bakers.
However, as the Paris Baguette headquarters delayed the direct employment of bakers by filing an administrative lawsuit ahead of the direct employment order deadline, union members of the Paris Baguette branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Chemical, Textile, and Food Workers' Union filed this labor status confirmation lawsuit in December 2017.

Subsequently, Paris Croissant established a tripartite joint company involving the headquarters, franchise owners, and partner companies and prepared a compromise plan to directly employ the bakers. However, as the agreement stalled over wage issues, the bakers did not withdraw the lawsuit.
