Dongshin University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Up to 4 Years Tuition Exemption for New Students
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Dongshin University College of Engineering announced on the 7th that it will waive full tuition fees for four years for freshmen who rank within the top 8 grades combined in Korean and English in the National Joint Academic Achievement Test or the College Scholastic Ability Test.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, boasting a strong alumni network, plans to support freshmen who meet scholarship eligibility conditions within the next three years with full tuition for four years after an interview with the department head, based on a development fund donated by alumni for their juniors.
Additionally, these students will receive systematic academic planning and guidance through the ‘Become a Public Official’ education program, one-on-one tutoring by professors in major subjects for public official exams, support for textbook purchases, certification fees, external exam fees such as TOEIC, and access to a dedicated study room within the department.
The goal is for supported freshmen to pass public official exams, such as civil engineering technical positions, before graduation.
Through the ‘Become a Public Official’ program, the Dongshin University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has successfully employed 15 people as public officials and regular employees of public enterprises over the past three years.
This year, six people passed, including four civil engineering technical public officials, one at Korea Rural Community Corporation, and one at Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation.
Last year, six civil engineering technical public officials passed, and in 2018, three people were employed, including one civil engineering technical public official, one at Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, and one at Jeonnam Development Corporation.
Kim Jae-hong, head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, said, “In the past five years, the vacancy rate for civil engineering public officials in Jeonnam Province has been around 50%, so large-scale recruitment is expected to continue for the time being,” adding, “We will ensure that students can become public officials before graduation through systematic guidance and management from their first year.”
He continued, “Our department was the first among civil engineering departments in universities in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions to acquire engineering accreditation,” adding, “Students who complete the engineering-accredited major course and graduate are objectively recognized as having international and professional-level practical skills, enabling them to be employed by various reputable companies.”
