Yeosu Police Award Appreciation Certificate to Bank Clerks for Voice Phishing Prevention
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu Police Station (Chief Moon Byung-hoon) announced on the 7th that it awarded a letter of appreciation to a bank clerk at Yeocheon Nonghyup Hwadong Branch who prevented a voice phishing crime the previous day.
The bank clerk became suspicious when an elderly man in his 80s, Mr. A, who came to the bank where the clerk works around 10 a.m. on the 30th of last month, appeared anxious and kept making phone calls. When Mr. A tried to withdraw all 50 million won in cash from his deposit at the bank, the clerk asked about the reason for the withdrawal. Suspecting a voice phishing crime, the clerk promptly placed a payment suspension on Mr. A’s account, thereby preventing the crime.
