Yangcheon-gu, Ranked 'No.1 in Seoul' in 2020 Regional Safety Evaluation
Selected as Grade A in the 2020 Natural Disaster Regional Safety Evaluation by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety... Ranked 1st among 25 Seoul districts, achieving additional national treasury support incentives for natural disaster damage
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) achieved the highest grade, A, in the 2020 Regional Safety Diagnosis Evaluation for Natural Disasters conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, ranking first among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul.
This regional safety evaluation was conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to enhance disaster prevention capabilities against natural disasters in 228 local governments nationwide. It combined evaluation scores from 53 detailed diagnostic items across three categories: natural disaster risk factors (14 indicators), disaster prevention measures implementation (26 indicators), and facility inspection and maintenance performance (13 indicators). The evaluation graded from A to E.
The closer to grade A, the better the region’s safety level.
Until the previous year, Yangcheon-gu had only received average evaluations among Seoul’s local governments in the regional safety assessment, but it established improvement measures and has been steadily working on them.
The district analyzed that being selected as the best institution for summer flood and wind disaster preparedness and as an excellent institution for winter snow removal measures by Seoul City contributed to receiving a high grade in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s evaluation as well.
By achieving grade A in this regional safety evaluation, Yangcheon-gu accomplished the remarkable feat of ranking first among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul and will receive incentives such as an additional 2% increase in national treasury support rate for natural disaster damage next year.
