Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Successfully Holds This Year's 'Yeosu Commerce Grand Awards Ceremony'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Park Yong-ha) announced on the 6th that it held the ‘Yeosu Commerce Grand Prize Award Ceremony for this year’ at the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chamber Hall the day before to mark the Year of the Ox (辛丑年).
The Yeosu Commerce Grand Prize Award Ceremony this year was held in strict compliance with the government’s COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, with 18 attendees including Joo Cheol-hyun, National Assembly member for Yeosu (Gap), Kwon Oh-bong, Mayor of Yeosu, Jeon Chang-gon, Chairman of Yeosu City Council, standing committee chairpersons of provincial and city councils, and local businesspeople.
The ‘Yeosu Commerce Grand Prize,’ which discovers and awards individuals who have contributed to fostering and developing local commerce and industry, creating a business-friendly social atmosphere, and advancing the local community, was awarded in the categories of labor welfare and regional development, along with a special merit award.
This year’s Yeosu Commerce Grand Prize in the labor welfare category was awarded to Jang Chung-ik, Manager at Lotte Chemical Co., Ltd., and Jeon Dong-ok, Executive Director of the Yeosu Ocheon Industrial Complex Food Processing Business Cooperative. The regional development category award was honored to Kim Moon-hwan, Director of Urban Planning at Yeosu City.
Seo Wan-seok, a member of the Yeosu City Council who served as the 7th term first half chairman, received the special merit award for his contributions to the local community and the development of commerce and industry.
In his New Year’s address, Park Yong-ha, Chairman of the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated, “Despite the repeated economic difficulties caused by the spread, containment, and resurgence of COVID-19, thanks to the support of local residents, large-scale private-led investments have continued smoothly in the region, and we are approaching an important period to confirm visible investment effects this year.” He added, “In the Year of the Ox (辛丑年), we will actively carry out regional economic revitalization projects that help overcome COVID-19 and aid the recovery of the local economy together with local residents and businesspeople.”
In his congratulatory speech, National Assembly member Joo Cheol-hyun said, “Despite the difficult times everyone faced last year due to COVID-19, I send my thanks and applause to the local businesspeople who endured tough and challenging times in the industrial field.” He added, “I ask for the active interest and participation of local economic figures in establishing Yeosu’s future vision.”
Mayor Kwon Oh-bong also said in his congratulatory speech, “Despite the unprecedented economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens and local businesspeople have joined forces to overcome COVID-19 well.” He added, “With a head start compared to others, we will focus on post-COVID-19 response and regional economic vitality to ensure Yeosu’s growth does not stop.”
