Lee said, “I have consistently urged Jeonnam Province and the Jeonnam Office of Education to make efforts to create jobs for people with disabilities,” and pointed out, “Due to fairness issues, the postal agency work is entrusted through general bidding, resulting in an unreasonable problem where the winning company subcontracts the work back to disability facilities.”
Lee Hyuk-je, who serves as the chairman of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee and as an education committee member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly, has continuously demanded that the contracts for DM dispatch companies for the provincial government newsletter ‘Jeonnam Saetteum’ published by Jeonnam Provincial Government and the ‘Jeonnam Education Newsletter’ published by the Jeonnam Office of Education be awarded through private contracts to disability support organizations.
Accordingly, since 2018, the Jeonnam Office of Education has signed private contracts worth 40 million KRW annually with disability facilities, and since 2021, the Jeonnam Provincial Government has signed private contracts worth 100 million KRW annually.
The Mokpo Myeongdo Self-Reliance Center is a protected workshop for people with disabilities operated by the Social Welfare Corporation Seonggolomban Welfare Foundation, providing work opportunities for a total of 36 people with severe disabilities to lead a dignified life.
Center Director Oh Jong-tak expressed gratitude, saying, “Last year, the contract for the Jeonnam Saetteum DM dispatch company was won through a difficult bidding process, which brought tears of joy, but this year it is being promoted through a private contract, allowing us to see the happy faces of our friends with disabilities.”
Assemblyman Lee Hyuk-je said, “I am grateful that Jeonnam Province and the Jeonnam Office of Education have proceeded with the newsletter DM dispatch company contracts through private contracts for the employment of socially considerate people with disabilities,” and added, “Seeing the happy faces of people with disabilities who have obtained jobs makes me glad. Although the conditions are difficult due to COVID-19, I will strive for more employment and welfare for people with disabilities.”
