[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed anticipation regarding the upcoming Biden administration in the United States, which will launch on the 20th, stating, “The Korea-US partnership under the Democratic Party is being revived for the first time in 20 years since the Kim Dae-jung-Clinton partnership.” He also emphasized that he will promote the Korea-US peace process with the new US administration.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 6th, Floor Leader Kim said, “The Moon Jae-in-Biden Democratic Party partnership will open a new golden era for the Korea-US alliance, strengthen the alliance, and achieve groundbreaking progress for peace on the Korean Peninsula.”

He continued, “The goals of the Democratic Party and the Moon Jae-in administration are clear. We will consistently pursue the Korean Peninsula peace process.”
Floor Leader Kim said, “The Korean Peninsula peace process is currently taking a brief pause to catch its breath, but it has by no means stopped,” and added, “The attitude of reconciliation and inclusion for permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, based on the Korea-US alliance, will continue unchanged.”
Regarding North Korea, he said, “We expect North Korea to actively change its attitude so that the framework for inter-Korean exchanges and North Korea-US negotiations can be newly established,” and urged, “A creative approach is needed to utilize the COVID-19 crisis as a new opportunity for inter-Korean cooperation. We hope the North Korean authorities will respond positively to inter-Korean talks for cooperation on treatments and vaccines.”

He also announced plans to reorganize the parliamentary delegation for diplomatic visits to the US. Floor Leader Kim said, “Around next month, a parliamentary delegation for diplomatic visits to the US will be formed. We will carefully discuss with government authorities and secure communication channels with the US Congress,” and added, “The party will calmly prepare from now on to achieve substantial diplomatic outcomes.”
