Gyeongnam National University Wins 'Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Award' at Gyeongnam Intellectual Property Strategy Competition
Baek Solhee Student Awarded Patent Office Commissioner Award for Excellent Item and 8 Other Awards Presented
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] The Gyeongnam National University University Innovation Support Project Group announced on the 6th that it held the ‘11th Gyeongnam Intellectual Property Strategy Competition Awards Ceremony’ at the Creative Hall and presented awards for eight categories, including the Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Award.
Hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Korea Invention Promotion Association and organized by the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the ‘11th Gyeongnam Intellectual Property Strategy Competition’ is a contest that encourages employment and entrepreneurship in the Gyeongnam region and links patent and utility model rights through idea development and advancement in specialized local industry fields.
The contest is held annually by evaluating the ability to create intellectual property through patent search and analysis on topics related to new technologies, latest issues, and patents. This year, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), separate award ceremonies were arranged for each winning university.
The grand prize of the competition, the Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Award, was awarded to Baek Solhee (3rd year, Department of Management Information Systems) of Gyeongnam National University for proposing the ‘Pet Healthcare Smart Leash’ device.
Additionally, Im Daegyeong (4th year, Department of International Trade and Logistics), Lee Hajun (4th year, Department of Mechanical Engineering), and Kim Minjin (3rd year, Department of Clothing Industry) received the ‘Korea Invention Promotion Association President’s Award’; Jeong Jueun (4th year, Department of Mechanical Engineering), Jeong Jinguk (4th year, Department of International Trade and Logistics), and Gu Yoonji (2nd year, Department of Cultural Contents) received the ‘Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry President’s Award’; and Kwon Yongsu (3rd year, Department of Mathematics Education) received the ‘Gyeongnam Creative Economy Center Director’s Award’.
Furthermore, Kim Seunghyun, Research and Industry-Academia Center Director, who has devoted efforts to guiding students for the spread of local invention culture and patent creation, received the ‘Excellence in Guidance Award’.
Thus, Gyeongnam National University won eight awards including the Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Award at the ‘11th Gyeongnam Intellectual Property Strategy Competition,’ achieving fruitful results by operating experience-based intellectual property education programs through the University Innovation Support Project Group to discover and advance students’ creative ideas and intellectual property rights.
