[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, personally visited Hwang Seung-yeon (76), the great-grandson of Maechon Hwang Hyun, to request cooperation such as the donation of Hwang Hyun’s relics for the success of the Namdo Uibyeong Museum.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 5th, the ‘Namdo Uibyeong Museum’ is a project that the province is focusing on to reexamine the Uibyeong (righteous army) activities in Jeolla Province, which were the most active nationwide, to honor the patriotic loyalty of the ancestors, and to revive the spirit of love for the country.
The province has been collecting various Uibyeong-related relics since 2019 to secure materials for the museum’s collection and currently possesses 532 relics.
Governor Kim said, “I hope to bring the relics of Maechon Hwang Hyun, a representative patriot and symbol of loyalty in the late Joseon period, to the Uibyeong Museum so that many visitors from across the country can honor his will.”
Meanwhile, Maechon Hwang Hyun, a descendant of Prime Minister Hwang Hee, was a representative poet, writer, and historian of the late Joseon period who resisted the Eulsa Treaty and left a ‘death poem (絶命詩)’ before his martyrdom.
Representative relics of Hwang Hyun include two treasures (portrait and photograph), 91 nationally registered cultural properties, and many others.
