[Photo] Seongjanghyeon, Yongsan District Mayor, Joins #ExpectLocalAutonomy Challenge

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan District, participated in the '#ExpectLocalAutonomy' challenge on the 5th at his office.

This challenge was first initiated by the Presidential Committee on Local Autonomy to deliver key messages such as determination and plans to prepare for the future of local autonomy, following the passage of the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act and related laws on autonomous police by the National Assembly on December 9 last year.

Participants who are nominated upload a photo expressing their free opinions about the 'Local Autonomy 2.0 Era' on SNS and then nominate the next participant.

Seong Jang-hyun, who was nominated by Byeon Gwang-yong, Mayor of Geoje, posed holding a panel that read, "Local autonomy that changes our lives, we will start together with residents."

He nominated Hwang In-hong, Mayor of Muju County, Jang Jong-tae, Mayor of Seo District in Daejeon, and Heo Seok, Mayor of Suncheon, as the next participants.

Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan District, said, "On December 9 last year, the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act, the first in 32 years, passed the plenary session of the National Assembly, opening a new era of local autonomy," adding, "Based on the capabilities accumulated by local governments over the past decades, we will further revitalize local communities."

Mayor Seong took office as the representative chairman of the Korea Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads in 2018, leading initiatives such as the 'Local Autonomy Gyeongju Declaration (2018.10.30.)' and the 'Resolution to Promote Grassroots-Centered Local Autonomy and Balanced Regional Development (2019.4.12.)' to strengthen local decentralization. He has contributed to realizing grassroots democracy through resident autonomy committees, village making, and urban regeneration.
