Dongdaemun-gu established a new section called ‘Dongdaemun-gu Visually Impaired Customized News’ in the braille version of the Dongdaemun-gu newsletter to improve information accessibility for the visually impaired and to encourage their participation in district administration.
The district publishes a 40-page braille version of the Dongdaemun-gu newsletter every month, containing abundant information on welfare and cultural activities for the visually impaired, distributing 250 copies monthly to visually impaired residents and related organizations such as welfare centers for the disabled.
The January 2021 issue included information on visually impaired hiking activities and participation programs at local welfare centers, as well as taxi voucher information for people with disabilities provided by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Choi Sang-min (41), a person with severe visual impairment living in Jangan-dong, said, “I am glad to receive essential information for the visually impaired as well as vivid news about our district through the improved braille newsletter,” sharing his thoughts upon receiving the January 2021 braille version of the Dongdaemun-gu newsletter.
