Korea GM Sold 368,453 Units Last Year... 11.7% Decrease YoY
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Korea GM announced that it sold a total of 368,453 units (82,954 units domestically, 285,499 units exported) in 2020. This represents an 11.7% decrease compared to last year's 417,226 units.
Korea GM's domestic sales in 2020 totaled 82,954 units, an 8.5% increase compared to the previous year, thanks to the company's efforts to normalize management and continuous new car launches. In particular, Korea GM's domestic sales in December recorded 9,259 units, a 5.0% increase compared to the same month last year. The Chevrolet Spark, which sold 3,334 units and set the highest monthly sales record in 2020, and the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which sold 2,376 units, led the domestic sales performance in December.
Additionally, the Chevrolet Trax and the Damas and Labo, which are scheduled to end production in the first quarter of this year, set their highest monthly sales records in 2020. Domestic sales of Damas and Labo in December increased by 97.7% and 74.2% respectively compared to the same month last year. The 2021 model year 'Real New Colorado,' featuring a premium exterior design with off-roader sensibility, continued its popularity as an authentic American pickup truck by selling 534 units last month.
Korea GM exported a total of 285,499 units to the global market throughout 2020. In particular, Korea GM's exports in December increased by 24.9% compared to the same month last year, reaching 37,458 units, marking the highest monthly figure for 2020. Last month, the Chevrolet Trailblazer, along with its sibling model the Buick Encore GX, exported a total of 21,781 units, setting the highest monthly record last year and achieving over 20,000 units exported in a single model for the second time since last September.
