One Case of UK Variant Virus Confirmed in Central Shanghai
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] A confirmed case of the UK-origin variant of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has occurred in Shanghai, China.
According to the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention on the 2nd, a woman who entered China on the 14th on a flight from the UK to Shanghai was infected with the UK-origin variant virus named 'B.1.1.7'.
The Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention explained, "The 23-year-old female patient studying in the UK is currently receiving treatment at a COVID-19 treatment hospital in Shanghai," and added, "Passengers who traveled together showed no special symptoms during the 14-day quarantine period."
Xu Wenbo, Director of Infectious Diseases at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said at a press conference with local media, "The variant virus introduced to Shanghai does not show significant differences in mortality or severity compared to previous variants," and added, "There is no need to be excessively fearful."
