Gyeongbuk Provincial Government New Town Surpasses 20,000 Population in 5 Years ... "Steady Infrastructure Expansion Achievements"
Residence of 8,374 out of 8,618 apartment units and 1,843 out of 2,027 officetel units
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 30th that the population of the provincial government new town reached 20,024 registered residents as of the 21st this year, thanks to the successful relocation of eight institutions and the expansion of infrastructure within the new town.
Gyeongbuk Province explained that this is due to the completion of the relocation of public institutions within the first phase site, the construction of large cultural facilities to create a young new town, and the steady improvement of residential environments such as new educational facilities.
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Government new town, located in Pungcheon-myeon, Andong City, and Homyeong-myeon, Yecheon County, had a population of 3,067 at its inception in 2016, which rapidly increased to 8,063 in 2017, 13,662 in 2018, and 17,443 in 2019.
Convenience facilities in the new town include 225 restaurants, 112 academies, and 66 cafes, totaling 899 establishments. Educational facilities consist of 40 schools and childcare centers, with 4,813 people receiving education within the new town. Regarding residential facilities, out of 8,618 apartment units, 8,374 are occupied, and out of 2,027 officetel units, 1,843 are occupied.
Next year, preparations are underway for the relocation of the Gyeongbuk Human Resources Development Institute, Gyeongbuk Provincial Arts Troupe, and Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters, aiming to start construction by the end of the year. Financial complex facilities such as the Daegu Bank New Town Branch (end of 2021) and Yecheon Livestock Cooperative (May 2021) are rushing to complete construction, and if the newly started New Town Complex Community Center is completed in 2022, the residential environment of the new town is expected to improve further.
Additionally, the Hominji Waterside Ecological Park, consisting of an approximately 100,000-pyeong artificial wetland and connecting pedestrian bridges, is scheduled to be established next year and is expected to become a premium relaxation space. If the 500-unit Happy Housing, which began construction in March this year, and the 210-unit officetel, scheduled to start construction in February next year, are completed, a population increase of over 1,000 people is anticipated.
Meanwhile, attracting companies to the surrounding areas of the new town is also influencing the improvement of the residential environment. Ten companies have moved into the Pungsan-eup Bio Industrial Complex, designated as a hemp industrialization regulatory free zone, and large industrial complexes such as the Yeongju Bearing Industrial Complex and the Gyeongbuk 2nd Bio Industrial Complex are currently under development.
