Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) held the 2020 Love Cake Making and Sharing event for the underprivileged in Nam-gu, Busan, for three days until the 23rd at the Kang Seok-jin Start-up Village on the 3rd floor of the International Industry-Academia Cooperation Building.
The Nam-gu Youth Creative Development Center and Dongmyung University Makerspace supported the event.
Faculty, staff, and students stepped up for neighbors in welfare blind spots who are having an even harder time due to COVID-19 and other challenges.
With hopes for a warm and healthy winter, faculty, staff, and volunteers sincerely made 400 cakes themselves. The cakes, made with the help of experts, will be delivered to the socially marginalized and those busy with quarantine, security, and firefighting duties during the year-end.
The cake making took place over two days on the 21st and 22nd. On the morning of the 23rd at 9:30 a.m., a ceremony to deliver 200 cakes was held at the Nam-gu Mayor’s office attended by Dongmyung University President Jeong Hong-seop, Vice President Shin Dong-seok, and Nam-gu Mayor Park Jae-beom.
The remaining 200 cakes will be gifted by Dongmyung University to local childcare centers, police stations, and 119 safety centers.
Since June, Dongmyung University’s LINC+ Project Group has organized this year-end sharing event based on support activities such as the joint garden and farm of Yongho-dong Urban Regeneration Resident University and home repair in cooperation with the Busan Nam-gu Urban Regeneration Division (Director Lee Mi-yeon) and Yongho-dong Urban Regeneration Field Support Center (Center Director Jo Seung-gu).
Dongmyung University also operates the Nam-gu Youth Creative Development Center with the Nam-gu Future Growth Officer’s Office (Director Han Kwang-young) Youth Policy Team and implements various programs such as employment and start-up support projects to create youth jobs.
Shin Dong-seok, head of the LINC+ Project Group, said, “As part of making Busan a warm city, I am very pleased that the cakes made directly by faculty and staff can be delivered to socially vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and child-headed households, as well as those serving the local community.”
