Daegu City Selected as 'Urban Convergence Special Zone' Centered on Former Provincial Office ... "Development of Daegu-style New Deal Hub"
Samsung Creative Campus~Kyungpook National University Triangle Area
Finalized by the National Balanced Development Committee on the 22nd
To be detailed in the basic plan establishment project in February next year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] The triangle area connecting the old Gyeongbuk Provincial Government site in downtown Daegu, Samsung Creative Campus, and Kyungpook National University was finally selected as a leading project site for the Urban Convergence Special Zone on the 22nd after review by the National Balanced Development Committee.
The Urban Convergence Special Zone is a project promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as part of regional balanced development policies. It is a project to create a high-density innovation space platform with excellent complex infrastructure such as industry, residence, and culture, like 'Pangyo 2 Valley,' so that companies and talents can gather in the downtown areas of local large cities.
The candidate sites proposed by Daegu City, including the old Gyeongbuk Provincial Government site, are adjacent within a radius of 1 km, allowing linkage and utilization of existing infrastructure and support programs of Kyungpook National University and Samsung Creative Campus. In addition, the presence of well-established industrial, transportation, and cultural infrastructure within a 3 km radius was highly evaluated for its potential for innovative growth.
Furthermore, if the preliminary feasibility study for EXCO, which remains for policy evaluation, passes, accessibility between the Urban Convergence Special Zone and major hubs in Daegu City is expected to improve significantly.
Since the announcement of the Urban Convergence Special Zone creation plan by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in September, Daegu City formed an Urban Convergence Special Zone TF led by Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Hong Ui-rak, including Daegu City, Kyungpook National University, corporate support organizations, and relocated public institutions such as the National Information Society Agency and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology.
The Urban Convergence Special Zone TF completed a blueprint for the special zone, including core infrastructure for technological innovation and R&D facilities, under the goals of 500 resident companies, creation of 10,000 new jobs, and achieving a 65% employment rate among youth in their 20s and 30s.
The old Gyeongbuk Provincial Government site will be developed into a specialized space where the Daegu-type New Deal is realized by creating an innovation leading space housing corporate support organizations and research institutes, corporate spaces for anchor and innovative companies, and cultural convergence spaces harmonizing workplaces and rest areas. Detailed Urban Convergence Special Zone project contents will be specified through the basic plan establishment service starting in February 2021.
