High Pathogenic Avian Influenza Confirmed at Farms in Imsil, Jeonbuk; Cheonan, Chungnam; and Gumi, Gyeongbuk
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza announced on the 15th that a total of three cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) were confirmed in Imsil, Jeonbuk; Cheonan, Chungnam; and Gumi, Gyeongbuk.
In Imsil, the case was found at a broiler breeder farm; in Cheonan, at a geese farm in an experience farm; and in Gumi, at a broiler farm. Detailed tests confirmed the presence of the H5N8 strain of highly pathogenic AI.

An official from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters stated, "This is a very serious situation with a high risk of highly pathogenic AI outbreaks if biosecurity measures at poultry farms are even slightly insufficient," and urged, "Farmers must firmly commit to protecting their farms and livestock by applying slaked lime, changing boots, and thoroughly checking and keeping disinfection certificates for vehicles visiting the farms."
