Bando Construction has been donating 100 million KRW annually since 2017 to support construction accident workers. This is in line with Chairman Kwon Hong-sa’s belief that, as a general construction company, they must fulfill their social responsibility amid the increasing number of accidents in the construction industry.
On the afternoon of the previous day, Bando Construction and the Construction Industry Social Contribution Foundation held a fund transfer ceremony at the Construction Hall located in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, and donated 100 million KRW. The ceremony was attended by Bando Construction CEO Park Hyun-il, Construction Industry Social Contribution Foundation Vice Chairman Choi Yoon-ho, and Bando Cultural Foundation Director Choi Dong-min.
The donated funds will be used to support medical expenses and living costs for accident workers. Among the candidates recommended by the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service, the Construction Industry Social Contribution Foundation selects recipients annually based on the severity of the accident, disability status, social vulnerability, number of dependents, and other criteria.
Over the past three years, Bando Construction has supported 138 accident workers with a total of 300 million KRW for medical and living expenses, and plans to support about 50 accident workers this year as well. According to data from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, the total number of industrial accident victims from January to September this year was 80,229, a slight decrease (0.7%) compared to the same period last year (80,846), but the number remains high. Among them, 19,365 industrial accident victims were in the construction sector, accounting for 24.1% of the total, highlighting the need for construction companies to strengthen safety measures at construction sites and maintain continuous attention to construction accident workers. Bando Construction plans to pay close attention to the difficulties faced by construction accident workers and support their medical and living expenses to help them return to work as soon as possible.
Park Hyun-il, CEO of Bando Construction, said, “All construction companies must prioritize the safety of on-site workers. We will continue to support accident workers who are suffering from unexpected accidents so that they can recover quickly.”
