POSCO Energy Receives Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award for Excellence in Sustainable Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Posco Energy announced on the 10th that it was selected as an outstanding company for spreading sustainable management and creating social value at the ‘2020 Sustainable Management Government Awards’ ceremony held at Halla Hall, Dragon City, Yongsan, Seoul, and received the ‘Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award.’
The ‘2020 Sustainable Management Government Awards’ is the only government award in the sustainable management sector hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, recognizing and awarding excellent companies that have led voluntary sustainable management practice and dissemination.
Posco Energy, which won the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award this year, was recognized for its various activities divided into Business, Society, and People based on Posco Group’s management philosophy of ‘Corporate Citizenship Growing Together.’
In the business sector, Posco Energy was the first domestic power generation company to apply plasma vaporizer technology at the Incheon LNG Combined Cycle Power Plant to proactively reduce atmospheric emissions and achieved 100% fulfillment of the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) for six consecutive years, actively responding to climate and environmental policies. Additionally, it collaborated with Incheon City to promote the ‘Solar Power Installation Project on Ara Waterway Bridges for Preventing Suicide Accidents,’ addressing social issues linked to its business.
In the social sector, under the social contribution slogan ‘Remove Carbon, Add Hope,’ Posco Energy carried out various activities sharing environmental values with future generations. Notably, these included ▲ Eco Dream: forest restoration in the Samcheok wildfire-affected area and planting windbreak forests to prevent fine dust in local communities, ▲ Decrease Energy CO2: reducing carbon dioxide through heating and cooling efficiency improvement projects, ▲ Up a Dream: supporting the dreams of future generations through university student mentoring at local children’s centers, and ▲ With Dream: delivering hope to local communities through employee participation in activities such as mural painting in crime-prone areas, systematically promoting social contribution activities.
Lastly, in the stakeholder sector, Posco Energy took the lead in creating a happy workplace where work and life are balanced. Through the humanities lecture program ‘Humanities Power Plant,’ it strengthened communication among employees, innovated work methods by piloting telecommuting, and actively implemented changes in the working environment for employees, such as telecommuting during childcare periods to reduce childcare burdens.
Jung Ki-seop, CEO of Posco Energy, said, “Despite many difficulties due to COVID-19 this year, I am grateful to the employees who have worked hard to practice and spread the corporate citizenship management philosophy,” adding, “Sustainable management is not a choice but a necessity, and we will continue to actively practice the corporate citizenship management philosophy.”
