Trump Ally, 'Master of Political Schemes,' Claims "North Korea Interfered in US Election"
Roger Stone Makes Baseless Claims on Far-Right Radio Broadcast
Unsubstantiated Evidence of Manipulation Emerges Ahead of Presidential Electorate Confirmation on the 8th
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] It has been confirmed that the Trump presidential camp has now raised claims that North Korea interfered in the election. The main figure is Roger Stone, the 'master of political intrigue.'
According to U.S. media such as Newsweek on the 6th (local time), Stone appeared on the far-right radio program 'The Alex Jones Show' on the 4th and asserted the theory of North Korea's interference in the U.S. presidential election.
Stone said, "I have obtained decisive evidence that a North Korean ship transported ballots through the port of Maine." He added, "If the judicial authorities investigate this and it is proven true, it will be evidence of foreign interference in the election."
As Stone's remarks circulated, the Maine Secretary of State's office immediately refuted them.
Christine Schultz Mushinsky, spokesperson for the Maine Secretary of State, stated, "There is no evidence that anyone interfered in the election, and the election results have been verified. Such rumors are baseless."
Stone is a longtime close associate of President Trump. He was facing imprisonment after being convicted on charges including perjury, witness tampering, and obstruction of Congress, but avoided crisis through a pardon from President Trump. After the pardon, he said, "I will do anything for Trump's re-election," and led a covert organization.
The master of political intrigue who overturned the U.S. election landscape multiple times could not prevent President Trump's election defeat, contrary to his boastful claims.
On the 8th, the list of electors will be finalized ahead of the Electoral College vote scheduled for the 14th. President Trump has been pushing a plan to nullify the certification of electors through lawsuits, but it is expected to be futile. President-elect Joe Biden is projected to secure more than 300 electors, surpassing the 270 needed for victory.
The Washington Post (WP) reported, citing sources, that on the 5th President Trump called Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to pressure him to request a special session of the state legislature to overturn the election results and appoint electors who would support him.
Governor Kemp, a Republican, rejected this request. Since Republican governors are also drawing the line on overturning election results, the possibility of President Trump's hopes being realized is fading.
On the 5th, President Trump held his first post-election public rally in Georgia to support the runoff election for the U.S. Senate and again emphasized election fraud.
