Eunpyeong-gu Creates Safe Alleyways for Crime Prevention Applying CPTED
Improving Nighttime Pedestrian Environment through Road Marker Posts and Logojectors
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) completed the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) project "Safe Alley Creation" construction this year in Gusan-dong, Bulgwang 1-dong, and Nokbeon-dong.
The Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) project aims to block or prevent criminal psychology through urban environmental design or planning, creating an environment where residents can live with peace of mind.
The target areas for this "Safe Alley Creation" construction were residential alleys that were sparsely populated and dark at night, causing high anxiety among pedestrians.
Reflecting residents' opinions, CPTED facilities such as solar-powered road markers and logo projectors were installed.
The solar-powered road markers block blind spots with continuous light in dark alleys, improving the nighttime walking environment. The light-based logo projectors display CCTV and emergency bell locations, the Safe Eunpyeong image, and other information to block criminal psychology and alleviate residents' fears.
Additionally, Yeokchon-dong and six other districts were designated as "Spider Crime Prevention Villages." Nighttime special fluorescent materials were applied to 1,344 locations including house fences, gas pipes, and outdoor units. Warning signs were installed, and poles with CCTV or emergency bells in child protection zones were painted bright yellow to improve visibility. Various CPTED projects were promoted.
A district official stated, "We will strive to prevent crime and create a safe environment where residents can live with peace of mind by installing facilities applying CPTED techniques within the region."
