Gwangju Nam-gu Selected as an 'Outstanding Institution for Self-Support Work' in the Joint Local Government Evaluation by the Ministry of Health and Welfare
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 2nd that it has been selected as an excellent institution in the self-support work category in the '2020 Local Government Joint Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and will receive the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare conducted an evaluation in four areas?▲self-support work ▲asset-building support projects ▲execution of self-support funds ▲operation of self-support projects?carried out by local governments nationwide over the past year to support the independence of vulnerable groups such as self-support beneficiaries.
Nam-gu earned the honor of being selected as an excellent institution by carrying out various self-support projects aimed at helping low-income residents to exit welfare dependency.
In particular, through self-support work projects linked with the local community, 403 vulnerable residents including basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups in the district participated, achieving results where participants succeeded in becoming independent on their own without receiving various welfare supports provided by the government and local governments.
Additionally, to support self-support and job assistance for vulnerable residents, Nam-gu collaborated with five local companies to promote an 'intern-type self-support work project,' providing wages for six months to 10 working poor residents, which was highly evaluated for strengthening the participants' independence capabilities.
Along with this, Nam-gu operated 12 self-support project groups engaged in caregiving, handicraft production, disinfection and sterilization, and organic product production to boost work motivation, and promoted the vision and hope for self-support projects through humanities lectures, thereby facilitating the participants' escape from poverty.
