CU Introduces Easy Point Accumulation Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] CU announced on the 2nd that it will introduce the industry's first 'CU Point Easy Accumulation Service,' which allows membership points to be accumulated using only a mobile phone number.
Since 2018, CU has renewed and reopened its membership app 'Pocket CU' and based on this, it provides a one-barcode accumulation service that allows payment, discounts, and point accumulation to be handled all at once.
The newly introduced CU Point Easy Accumulation Service allows customers to accumulate CU membership points immediately by simply entering their mobile phone number on the customer screen of the POS or the card terminal (dongle), without the need to install a separate app or go through a membership registration process.
The accumulated points are sent to the customer's KakaoTalk with details, and if the customer registers as a CU membership member within the point validity period (6 months), the points can be used like cash at CU stores nationwide.
By touching the link sent via KakaoTalk message along with the accumulation details, customers can easily sign up for CU membership through the Kakao 1-second membership registration service based on KakaoTalk member information.
In particular, this service was developed independently by BGF Retail and is implemented on existing POS systems without additional devices or program installations, so there is no extra cost burden on franchise stores.
CU is launching the easy point accumulation service to expand the accumulation system from existing members to non-members and simplify the accumulation process so that more customers can enjoy CU's membership benefits.
Considering the characteristics of convenience stores where the time spent in-store is short and small-amount purchases are common, the pre-accumulation and post-registration system lowers customers' psychological barriers to point accumulation, while encouraging membership registration when points are used in the future, helping franchise stores secure loyal customers.
CU's membership point accumulation rate is industry-leading at 1-2% depending on the membership tier. Customers can use points to purchase products or donate to organizations such as Hope Bridge, UNICEF, and the Korea National Park Service, and can also gift points to family and friends.
