GS25 Launches Industry-First AI Robot Delivery Service
Starting at LG Science Park Store
Sequential Expansion Planned
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] A convenience store delivery service where AI robots deliver orders placed via smartphone has been launched.
GS Retail announced on the 30th that GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, has become the first in the industry to start a service where AI-equipped robots directly deliver products ordered via smartphone at a GS25 store located within LG Science Park.
The robot delivery service begins when customers order GS25 products through KakaoTalk's order service. Once the customer completes the order and their information is sent to the GS25 store, the store staff loads the products onto the robot and inputs the customer's contact information and destination.
Then, the robot learns through its camera module and autonomously drives the shortest route to the destination based on an imaged building map. If elevator use is required, the robot wirelessly calls the elevator, boards it by itself, and moves to the destination. The travel time from the GS25 store to the farthest delivery destination on the 9th floor within LG Science Park is about 5 minutes, and there is no additional delivery fee.
The delivery robot, which integrates cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, ultrasonic sensors, autonomous driving functions, and safety devices, is named 'Dilio.' The robot measures 50cm in width, 50cm in depth, and 130cm in height, and through three drawers installed on its body, it can deliver up to 15kg of products in one trip to multiple (three) locations.
GS25 plans to further enhance the robot delivery service by analyzing and improving delivery data performed by the first delivery robot Dilio in collaboration with LG Electronics, and expand the robot delivery service to GS25 stores located in GS Tower and Parnas Tower starting January next year.
Park Sang-wook, head of the GS25 marketing team, said, “As part of activities to differentiate untact consumption, which has spread as an alcohol trend, and last-mile delivery, we have launched the industry's first robot delivery service that combines advanced technologies. GS25 will lead the new normal consumption trend by accelerating digital transformation that realizes imaginative services like robot delivery.”
