People Power Party: "Is Lee Nak-yeon Becoming a 'Figurehead Leader'? Democratic Party Should Accept Yoon's State Affairs Investigation"
[Asia Economy reporters Lee Ji-eun and Kim Hye-min] The People Power Party has pressured the Democratic Party of Korea to accept a parliamentary investigation into Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol. Since Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon hinted at considering the investigation, refusing to accept it is seen as a sign of Lee's lame-duck status.
On the morning of the 27th, Kim Seong-won, the senior floor leader of the People Power Party, submitted a "Request for a Parliamentary Investigation to Uncover the Truth Behind the Rule of Law Disruption Incident Caused by the Suspension Order of Prosecutor General Yoon" to the National Assembly Secretariat. Afterward, he told reporters, "The Democratic Party should no longer create a figurehead party leader and, as Leader Lee said, immediately engage in the parliamentary investigation of Prosecutor General Yoon." On the same day, 110 members from the People Power Party, the People’s Party, and independents jointly submitted the request for the investigation into Prosecutor General Yoon.
Kim, the senior floor leader, said, "Due to the resurgence of COVID-19, a collapsed economy, and soaring real estate prices, public anxiety continues and accelerates. In this situation, the fight between Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon must be ended as soon as possible."
Jeon Ju-hye, who also submitted the request on the day, added, "Although the Democratic Party’s Judiciary Committee members have stated they will summon both Prosecutor General Yoon and Minister Choo to question them on the rule of law disruption incident, they have uniquely refused to accept Yoon’s attendance. If they are confident, there is no reason not to accept the parliamentary investigation submitted by the People Power Party and the People’s Party."

Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, also said to reporters after the floor leaders’ meeting that morning, "The party leader strongly urged consideration of the parliamentary investigation, but if the party refuses, does that mean the leader has become a lame duck? Regardless of the leader’s statement, this is a matter of national and public interest and a case of national order disruption. If this case is not investigated by the National Assembly, then what is the Assembly for?"
