Half of Vocational High School Graduates Employed... Schools Located Outside the Capital Region Show Higher Employment Rates
Ministry of Education Conducts First Survey Using Public DB Method

Targeting Graduates from January to February This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] More than half of this year's vocational high school graduates were found to have secured employment.
The Ministry of Education announced the results of the first survey conducted after reorganizing the post-graduation status survey system using the Korea Educational Development Institute and public database (DB) on the 27th. This survey targeted graduates from January to February of this year from 576 vocational high schools nationwide.
According to the survey, the overall employment rate for vocational high schools was 50.7%. Out of 89,998 graduates, 24,938 were employed, 38,215 pursued further education, 1,585 enlisted in the military, and 970 were recognized as exceptions.
By school region, six metropolitan cities and provinces?Gyeongbuk, Daejeon, Daegu, Sejong, Seoul, Chungbuk, and Chungnam?had employment rates higher than the overall average. Schools located outside the metropolitan area had an employment rate of 41.0%, which was 0.8 percentage points higher than that of the metropolitan area. By school type, Meister high schools had the highest employment rate at 71.2%, followed by specialized high schools at 49.2%, and general high school vocational classes at 31.6%. Based on employment location, 57.3% of employed graduates worked at companies in the metropolitan area, while 42.7% were employed outside the metropolitan area.

The Ministry of Education plans to focus on promoting high school graduate employment activation projects to provide good jobs. In the first half of next year, they plan to review the progress of vocational high school employment support policies announced so far through the Social Relations Ministers' Meeting. This statistical data will be linked to be reflected in the Basic Education Statistics.
