Estrafic Wins Contract for Unmanned Train Control System Construction on Ilsan Line
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Estraffic announced on the 26th that it has won the contract from Korea Railroad Corporation for the "Korea Train Control System-Metro (KTCS-M) Pilot Project Section 2 (Ilsan Line Jeongbalsan~Daehwa) Manufacturing and Installation" project.
The total contract amount is 8.68 billion KRW, and Estraffic, as a core solution holder, formed a consortium with Hyundai Rotem to sign the contract. The construction period is from the 25th of last month until December 31, 2022.
This project involves building infrastructure to enable fully unmanned operation on the KTCS-M pilot section of the Ilsan Line. Estraffic and Hyundai Rotem will upgrade the existing signaling equipment on the Jeongbalsan~Daehwa section and carry out the design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of the KTCS-M system to be installed on Seoul Subway Line 3 trains.
Estraffic evaluated the project as significant because it is the first domestically developed unmanned train operation solution. A company representative explained, "While trains equipped with this system, such as the Shinbundang Line, have all depended on overseas technology, Estraffic secured technology independently developed by Samsung SDS and POSCO ICT, and through active investment verified functions, performance, and safety to meet international standards, laying the foundation for establishing a Korean-style train control system." Estraffic plans to actively expand KTCS-M related projects based on this Ilsan Line project.

An Estraffic official stated, "The unmanned train operation system is a technology that is gaining attention because it reduces operating costs and prevents accidents caused by human error," adding, "We will successfully carry out this pilot project, actively participate in future new and upgrade train control system projects, and, confident in our international competitiveness, we plan to actively promote overseas exports as well."
