Iljin Composite Materials Selected as Hydrogen Truck Supplier for Hyundai Motor Company
The Third Hydrogen Electric Bus in the Commercial Vehicle Sector Following City and Intercity Buses
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Iljin Composite Materials announced on the 24th that it has been selected as the supplier of hydrogen storage systems (fuel tanks + modules) for Hyundai Motor Company's hydrogen fuel cell trucks.
This is the third selection in the hydrogen commercial vehicle sector, following hydrogen fuel cell city buses in May last year and hydrogen fuel cell intercity buses in August this year.
Hyundai Motor Company plans to pilot supply hydrogen fuel cell trucks mainly for logistics trucks in 2021.
The government is also promoting the distribution of a total of 150,000 hydrogen commercial vehicles, including 30,000 hydrogen trucks, 40,000 hydrogen buses, and 80,000 hydrogen taxis by 2040, according to the 'Hydrogen Economy Activation Roadmap.'
The 150,000 hydrogen commercial vehicles correspond to 18.5% of the total 808,000 commercial vehicles as of the end of 2019.
Kim Ki-hyun, CEO of Iljin Composite Materials, said, "We will focus our capabilities on developing specialized products suitable for transportation means with advanced technology leading the industry."
Iljin Composite Materials, a subsidiary of Iljin Diamond (with an 86.95% stake), is the only company in Korea mass-producing fuel tanks for hydrogen vehicles.
