[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 23rd, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting with the ASEAN diplomatic corps in Korea to exchange opinions on the New Southern Policy Plus initiative announced by the government at the Korea-ASEAN Summit.
The meeting, attended by the diplomatic corps of the 10 ASEAN member countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, was also attended by Choi Jong-geon, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Park Jae-kyung, Director-General of the ASEAN Division from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vice Minister Choi emphasized that despite the COVID-19 situation, the Korean government has maintained close cooperation with ASEAN by continuing high-level personnel exchanges and establishing a fast-track system for businesspeople. He also stated that through the New Southern Policy Plus, cooperation in health, medical care, and economic recovery, as well as solidarity and cooperation against non-traditional security threats, will be further strengthened, asking for the interest and support of the ASEAN ambassadors.
In response, the ASEAN ambassadors expressed their welcome and support for the Korean government's announcement of the New Southern Policy Plus, and expressed their hope that the Korea-ASEAN strategic partnership will take a significant leap forward through the faithful implementation of the New Southern Policy Plus.
The participants then expressed their gratitude for the Korean government's comprehensive efforts over the past three years to focus on ASEAN diplomacy and develop Korea-ASEAN relations.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "Vice Minister Choi and the participants agreed to strengthen communication between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ASEAN diplomatic corps in Korea to ensure that the New Southern Policy Plus yields mutually beneficial results in political, economic, social, and health sectors."
