Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station Presents 'Certificate of Appreciation' to Taxi Driver for Preventing Voice Phishing
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju announced on the 20th that it presented a letter of appreciation along with gratitude to taxi driver Kang Mo (65) for his contribution to preventing voice phishing damage.
On the 6th at around 3:34 PM, he was recognized for preventing a voice phishing scam that could have caused a loss of approximately 34 million won to a passenger in his taxi.
Kang noticed something suspicious when the passenger, who hurriedly got into the taxi, mentioned meeting a Financial Supervisory Service employee at Songjeong Station and tightly held onto a bag. He reported this to the police and persuaded the passenger.
Having previously served as a community patrol chief and being well-versed in police-related matters, Kang immediately sensed that the passenger’s story was a voice phishing scam.
