Plans for Logistics-Mobility Convergence and Development of Various Service Businesses
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] GS Retail and KT are jointly promoting a logistics business utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
On the 17th, GS Retail announced that it signed a 'Business Agreement for Digital Logistics Business Cooperation' with KT at the GS Tower located in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Through this agreement, the two companies will promote a pilot project for logistics transportation optimization using GS Retail's online and offline logistics data and KT's AI logistics optimization platform. They have joined hands for a joint digital logistics business that fuses and analyzes logistics data using AI, big data, and IT platforms to implement an optimized logistics and transportation environment.
First, from next month for about two months, GS Retail and KT will conduct a pilot project of the 'Logistics Transportation Efficiency System' using KT's AI logistics optimization platform targeting GS Retail's Goyang Logistics Center and Jeju Logistics Center. GS Retail will introduce a 'logistics optimization service' that automatically establishes the optimal transportation routes and schedules using KT's AI technology. KT will provide GS Retail with the 'logistics optimization service' that automatically establishes the optimal transportation routes and schedules using AI. GS Retail's delivery personnel can utilize this through commercial vehicle-dedicated navigation and applications linked to the KT platform.
The AI logistics optimization platform applies complex variables including existing transportation data, real-time traffic conditions, cargo volume, and pickup times by branch. By guiding the optimal route reflecting external environments such as truck height, length, weight, narrow roads, U-turns, and avoidance options, it enhances driving convenience and helps reduce travel distance.
In the future, they plan to diversify cooperation into future growth business areas by jointly promoting the development of future-type services combining logistics and mobility and EV (Electric Vehicle)-based mobility business development to lead the eco-friendly logistics market.
Heo Yeon-su, Vice Chairman and CEO of GS Retail, said, "In the rapidly changing distribution environment and industrial structure, we want to take the first step to lead domestic digital logistics innovation and advancement together with KT, which has driven innovation in various domestic industries." He added, "Based on the capabilities, infrastructure, and technology of both companies, maintaining and developing a mutually cooperative relationship will be the cornerstone for differentiated new growth business development and discovering new business opportunities."
