Dongdaemun-gu to Host 'Grand Class' for 200 Male Students' Parents at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies on the 14th at 10 AM... Lectures by Lee Seung-ju, Lee Chung-min, and Kim Chang-ok on Children's Sexual Health and Family Communication in Three Sessions
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) held a sexual health talk concert titled ‘Sexual Health Class for Parents: Ja(自)yu-ro(Uro)um’ (hereinafter referred to as Sexual Health Class) on the 14th at 10 a.m. at the Obama Hall of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, targeting about 200 parents with male children attending elementary, middle, and high schools in Dongdaemun-gu.
This event was planned with the purpose of providing parents with accurate sexual health information to raise awareness of the increasing issues related to adolescent sexual problems and sexual health.
Last year’s Sexual Health Class received great responses by featuring familiar broadcasters and sex education experts who addressed the importance of proactive sexual awareness and sexual health management, tailored to the perspective of male middle school students.
This year, the goal was to enhance awareness of sexual health education within families by offering solutions to communication problems between parents and children.
The lecture on the day was conducted in three parts, hosted by announcer Kim Hwan. In the first part, Professor Lee Seung-joo of the Department of Urology at Catholic University Medical School spoke on the topic ‘Understanding the Sexual Growth of Adolescent Children,’ sharing methods to manage children’s sexual health in daily life as well as symptoms and prevention of major sexual diseases.
In the second part, instructor Lee Chung-min from the non-profit organization Pureun Auseong gave a lecture on how to communicate with children in the digital age and how to discuss sexuality with them.
Finally, in the third part, communication expert Kim Chang-ok continued the lecture on the theme ‘Healthy Communication Between Couples and Between Parents and Children.’
In his congratulatory remarks, Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Following last year, it is meaningful that Dongdaemun-gu, in collaboration with Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Health (Senior Researcher Kim Soo-yeon) and the Korean branch of the global biohealthcare company MSD, Korea MSD (CEO Kevin Peters), can provide adolescents and parents with sound character development and accurate information on sexual health through public-private-academic cooperation.” He added, “Communication between couples is the key to resolving conflicts in child-rearing. I hope this education provided parents with an opportunity to learn effective ways to communicate not only with their spouses but also with their adolescent children.”
Before the special lecture, Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, is giving a greeting.
