[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Members of the Gwangjin District Council (Chairperson Park Sam-rye) attended the 2020 4th Quarter Regular Meeting of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council held at Gwangjin District Office on the morning of the 13th, where they shared opinions on ways to promote the Korean Peninsula peace process and unification.
The meeting was held with advisory committee members of the Gwangjin District Council in attendance. After watching a video related to the 4th quarter theme, the session proceeded with Councilor Park Soon-bok facilitating the presentation of consolidated opinions on unification among the advisory members.
The second part of the meeting, the Seoul Regional Meeting, which followed the regular meeting, was conducted via online group video conferencing by each council due to COVID-19.
Chairperson Park Sam-rye stated, “Establishing a peace system between North and South Korea is a challenging national task, but just as small droplets gather to form rivers and seas, each opinion from the local community will come together to form discourse and establish a foundation for peaceful unification. Despite rapidly changing issues such as the U.S. presidential election and the West Sea government official killing incident, movements for peaceful unification within the local community must continue.”
She also said, “Together with the newly appointed advisory members, the Gwangjin District Council will also join forces to provide many opinions for reconciliation and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.”
The Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council is a constitutional institution established under Article 92 of the Constitution. It comprises representatives from regions and professions, general citizens, socially vulnerable groups, multicultural families, and North Korean defectors as advisory members. The council advises and proposes policies for peaceful unification to the President, who serves as the chairperson of the meetings.
