Jeonnam Public and Private Sectors Unite to Support Fishermen Struggling Due to COVID-19
Jeonnam Province to Hold Drive-Thru Seafood Promotion Event on 14th-15th
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] To support fishermen who have faced difficulties due to the decline in aquaculture seafood consumption amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the public and private sectors of Jeonnam have joined forces.
Jeonnam Province announced on the 13th that from the 14th to 15th, together with Yeosu City, the Southwest Sea Fishery Cooperative, and the Korea Fisheries Management Association, they will hold a seafood drive-thru sales event at the entrance of Hwayang Jobal Bridge in Yeosu City.
This sales event targets both tourists and local residents and will be conducted in a drive-thru format that allows ordering and purchasing from inside vehicles while adhering to social distancing guidelines.
The items for sale include assorted sashimi (mullet and sea bream), semi-dried rockfish and sea bream, steamed abalone, freshwater eel (pre-grilled), and seaweed sets.
Prices range from 20,000 to 35,000 KRW per item, up to 20% cheaper than market prices.
So far, since March, the province has conducted 20 seafood drive-thru and order sales events, achieving sales of 1 billion KRW.
In addition, the province is implementing various policies to promote seafood sales.
They are running coupon discount events on Namdo Jangteo, an online shopping mall for agricultural, fishery, and livestock products in Jeonnam. As of the end of last month, cumulative seafood sales reached 6.6 billion KRW, a tenfold increase compared to last year.
Seafood accounted for 23% of total sales on Namdo Jangteo last month, a significant rise from 8% last year.
Development of seafood home meal replacements (HMR) is also underway, and they are preparing the business in cooperation with major distributors to enable online sales immediately upon release.
