In the Era of Peaceful Unification, the Future of Libraries Is...
German Cultural Center in Korea and Korean Library Association Hold Library Policy Forum
The Library Information Policy Committee, the German Cultural Center in Korea, and the Korean Library Association will hold a library policy forum today (the 10th) at 3 p.m. under the theme "Libraries Preparing for the Future in the Era of Peaceful Unification." The event aims to acquire experiences related to library affairs from unified Germany and explore exchange and cooperation measures between South and North Korea. Claudia Lux, former president of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, will deliver the keynote speech. She will explain the experience of integrating library affairs under the theme "Germany's Experience with Library Unification." Following presentations will be given by Hyunseong Cho, research fellow at the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute; Seungseop Song, professor at Myongji University; and Jingun Jeong, professor at Kangwon National University Law School. They will discuss topics such as "Perceptions of Unification and Directions for Inter-Korean Cultural Exchange," "The Present and Future of Inter-Korean Library Exchange," and "Libraries Preparing for the Future: Focusing on Copyright Law and Systems," respectively. The comprehensive discussion will be moderated by Youngman Ko, professor at Sungkyunkwan University. Participants include Yongwoo Na, research fellow at the Korea Institute for National Unification; Myunghui Yoon, director of Paju City Central Library; and Kiheon Kim, planning director at the Foundation for Inter-Korean Economic and Cultural Cooperation. To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), audience participation will be minimized. Instead, the event will be simultaneously broadcast live with interpretation on the YouTube channels of the Korean Library Association and the German Cultural Center in Korea.
