Seoul Facilities Corporation Provides Up to 500,000 KRW Support for Grave Opening and Cremation at 5 Seoul Municipal Cemeteries
From November 9 to December 31, up to 500,000 KRW support for opening and cremation of graves at 5 Seoul Municipal Cemeteries... First-come, first-served at respective cemetery offices. Submission of opening/cremation certificates and supporting documents required.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seoul Facilities Corporation (Chairman Seongil Jo) will provide up to 500,000 KRW to bereaved families who have exhumed graves and conducted cremations at Seoul municipal cemeteries.
Considering that exhumation and cremation typically cost between 800,000 and 1,000,000 KRW, this support effectively reduces the expense by half.
The cost support applies to five Seoul municipal cemeteries: Yongmi 1 and 2 Cemeteries, Byeokje Cemetery, Manguri Cemetery, and Naegok-ri Cemetery.
Seoul Facilities Corporation stated that through this exhumation and cremation cost support, they aim to organize neglected graves and improve the surrounding cemetery environment. This measure responds to ongoing concerns that unmanaged graves in municipal cemeteries are increasing due to the aging and passing of bereaved families, nuclear family trends, and changes in funeral culture, which damage the natural environment and cause discomfort.
The conditions for exhumation and cremation cost support are: ? Completion of exhumation and cremation between November 9 and December 31, 2020 ? No outstanding grave management fees in the municipal funeral facility electronic system ? Submission of supporting documents for exhumation and cremation costs by January 10, 2021. All conditions must be met.
Applicants must first visit the relevant cemetery management office to fill out and submit the exhumation report and support application forms. After conducting exhumation through funeral-related companies and completing cremation at Seoul Municipal Crematorium (Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si) or Seoul Memorial Park (Seocho-gu, Seoul), applicants must submit the exhumation and cremation report certificates along with supporting documents.
Required supporting documents include: ? One copy of a tax invoice, cash receipt, or credit card sales slip ? One copy of transaction statement ? Cremation certificate (if using crematoriums outside Seoul Municipal Crematorium or Seoul Memorial Park). Only supporting documents issued by businesses registered in funeral or related industries are accepted.
Recognized cost items include: ? Labor costs for exhumation (up to 4 people) ? Purchase costs for items used in collecting remains (such as collection trays, vinyl, etc.).
Seoul City will invest a total of 200 million KRW in this exhumation and cremation support. If the maximum support of 500,000 KRW per grave is provided, a total of 400 graves are expected to benefit. Support funds will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
The allocation of supported graves per municipal cemetery is as follows: Yongmi 1 Cemetery 200 graves, Yongmi 2 Cemetery 50 graves, Byeokje-ri Cemetery 50 graves, Manguri Cemetery 50 graves, and Naegok-ri Cemetery 50 graves. The number of supported graves per cemetery may be adjusted depending on application status.
For more details, please refer to the Seoul Municipal Crematorium website or contact each cemetery management office by phone.
