The Birthday Celebration for the Mother Arranged by Hyomyeongseja Will Be Reenacted
On the 11th, the Joseon King Sunjo's Muja Year Yeongyeongdang Jinjak Ceremony at Changdeokgung Yeongyeongdang
The Changdeokgung Management Office and the World Ethnic Dance Research Institute will reenact the Joseon King Sunjo's Muja Year Yeongyeongdang Jinjak Ceremony at 11 a.m. on the 11th in the rear garden Yeongyeongdang of Changdeokgung Palace. Jinjak Ceremony (進爵禮) was a ritual in which officials presented wine and food to the king and paid respects on special royal occasions. The reenacted Sunjo Muja Year Yeongyeongdang Jinjak Ceremony commemorates the feast prepared by Crown Prince Hyomyeong in the lunar year 1828 (Muja year) to celebrate the 40th birthday of his mother, Queen Sunwon (純元王后).
The performance is based on the 'Sunjo Muja Jinjak Uigwe (純祖戊子進爵儀軌)'. Featuring traditional dances and costumes verified through academic research, it is presented as a dignified traditional ritual. The sequence of performances is Chundae Okchok (春臺玉燭), Musanhyang (舞山香), Bakjeopmu (撲蝶舞), Gain Jeonmokdan (佳人剪牧丹), and Chunaengjeon (春鶯?) in order.
Chundae Okchok is a Hyangak Jeongjae (a type of traditional court dance) that premiered at the 1828 Yeongyeongdang Jinjak Ceremony. Musanhyang is a Hyangakmu (court dance to Hyangak music) performed while moving around the Daemoban (玳瑁盤; a portable stage resembling a bed). Bakjeopmu is a Hyangak Jeongjae that imitates the fluttering of butterfly wings. Gain Jeonmokdan is a Song Dynasty court dance in which a person dressed in Hongsaengsaekche (紅生色?) clothes and wearing a Geumbonggwan plucks peonies. Chunaengjeon is a Hyangak Jeongjae created by Crown Prince Hyomyeong in 1828 for Queen Sunwon.
