LG Uplus Volunteers to Improve Housing Conditions for Underprivileged Groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG Uplus conducted the home repair volunteer activity ‘U+ Hope House’ to help underprivileged groups have a warm winter.
According to LG Uplus on the 9th, since 2017, LG Uplus and Korea Habitat have annually carried out volunteer activities for underprivileged groups by raising an executive fund involving all executives at the level of senior manager and above. This year, LG Uplus used the 37.4 million KRW raised from the executive fund to create and deliver indoor interior items directly by employees to three locations. The delivered interior items included bookstands, string art, and felt humidifiers.
The beneficiary of this Hope House volunteer activity, Jaehan Mongol School, started as a study room for children of Mongolian workers and currently has 300 elementary to high school students enrolled. The school was burdened with costs related to renovating the dormitory operated for students coming from provinces. Through this U+ Hope House activity, the space was reborn as a comfortable place for students to stay.
An elderly person with mild disabilities living in Mapo-gu was living and eating in the kitchen with a makeshift bed installed. Urgent home repairs such as wallpaper and flooring replacement and wall waterproofing were needed. Another elderly person with dementia faced a situation requiring floor repairs due to boiler defects and aging floorboards ahead of winter. Thanks to the U+ Hope House volunteer work, the elderly can now spend a warm winter.
