Lee Hye-ja, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, Points Out Increase in School Dropout Students in Jeonnam
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Lee Hye-ja, Jeonnam Provincial Councilor (Democratic Party of Korea, Muan 1), pointed out the need for active prevention and efforts for students on the verge of dropping out of school during the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education's administrative audit.
According to the data submitted by Councilor Lee Hye-ja on the 6th, about 1,000 students leave school every year. As of last September, 854 students dropped out, and this September, 908 students dropped out, an increase of about 50 students. This year, 228 elementary school students, 132 middle school students, and 548 high school students discontinued their studies.
Councilor Lee said, "Although reasons such as studying abroad and illness have decreased, the number of students giving up on school has increased," and emphasized, "Over the past three years, the number of students in Jeonnam has decreased from 215,390 in 2018, 212,262 last year, to 206,573 this year. The increase in students dropping out is evidence of serious problems in the school environment."
