Nowon-gu Partners with Seoul National University Hospital to Develop Biomedical Cluster at Changdong Vehicle Depot
On the 9th at 10 AM, Nowon District Office signed a business agreement with Seoul National University Hospital... Agreed to actively cooperate through joint practical T/F team for policy development and planning... Full-scale launch of 'Biomedical Cluster Development Project' on 250,000㎡ around Changdong Vehicle Depot
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The 'Biomedical Cluster Development Project,' which will serve as a hub for innovative growth industries in Nowon-gu, is expected to officially commence.
Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 9th that it will sign a business agreement with Seoul National University Hospital and the Changdong Vehicle Depot area to successfully establish the biomedical cluster.
The signing ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on the same day at Nowon-gu Office, attended by District Mayor Oh Seung-rok, Seoul National University Hospital Director Kim Yeon-su, local district members of the National Assembly, and key officials from Seoul City.
Through this agreement, the two institutions will form a joint working T/F team to cooperate mutually in discovering related policies and establishing plans to promote the project.
The biomedical cluster is planned to be built on a 250,000㎡ (75,000 pyeong) site around the Changdong Vehicle Depot, which is confirmed to be relocated to Namyangju. Nowon-gu and Seoul City aim to attract world-class research hospitals, related companies, and R&D research institutes to establish a bio-medical industry ecosystem.
To this end, Seoul City is currently conducting a 'Seoul Biomedical Cluster Development and Attraction Strategy Study.'
Additionally, through the operation of a project promotion team involving Nowon-gu, Seoul City, major domestic hospitals such as Seoul National University Hospital and Asan Medical Center, key companies, and investors, a basic conceptual plan is scheduled to be prepared by the first half of next year.
In line with this, the district office is moving swiftly. In May, it formed the 'Nowon Bio Policy Advisory Group.' Composed of 10 experts in bio-medical, innovation clusters, and related fields, the advisory group will propose and advise on specific implementation plans based on Seoul City's conceptual plan.
The district expects that once full-scale construction begins around 2025, it will create 80,000 jobs and invigorate the local economy.
Director Kim Yeon-su stated, "Bio-medical is one of the core fields of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era with high economic ripple effects and strong government support," adding, "Seoul National University Hospital will also cooperate to strengthen the nation's competitiveness in the bio-medical sector."
District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "The area around the Changdong Vehicle Depot is the only available development site in the bed town of Nowon and represents hope for securing future growth engines," and added, "Through this agreement with the world-class Seoul National University Hospital, we will leap forward as a self-sufficient city full of economic vitality by creating quality jobs through the successful establishment of the biomedical innovation complex."
