Dongdaemun-gu Selects 44 Open Childcare Centers
Physical Space Opening, Active Parental Participation in Childcare Operations... Strong Trust Between Daycare Centers and Parents
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) has selected 44 Open Childcare Centers to create a safe childcare environment.
Open Childcare Centers are places that prevent child abuse by not only opening physical spaces but also allowing parents to participate in childcare operations, creating an environment where parents can trust and leave their children.
The district evaluates childcare centers based on criteria such as openness of space, creation of shared parent spaces, information disclosure, individual parent counseling, surveys on parent participation activities, and detailed selection standards of local government programs. Childcare centers scoring 80 points or higher are finally selected as Open Childcare Centers.
If centers selected in the previous year wish to be reselected, evaluations are conducted from August to October, and those scoring 80 points or higher are reselected.
New applicants for childcare centers are evaluated and selected from September to October.
The district began selecting Open Childcare Centers in 2017 with 7 centers, 10 centers in 2018, and 29 centers in 2019.
The Open Childcare Centers selected this time actively operate parent participation programs such as parent education and community linkage activities, run programs for single-parent families and multicultural families, practice community integration, and introduce diverse world cultures to children and parents.
