When Can the Final Results of the US Presidential Election Be Known?
Georgia Vote Counting Expected Complete by 5th
Pennsylvania After 6th, Nevada & North Carolina After 10th
Biden Secures Historic First 70 Million Votes in US History
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] It has been two days since the U.S. presidential election, but the winner has not yet been confirmed. Due to the delay in vote counting caused by the largest-ever early voting turnout, intense attention is focused on when the regional vote counts will be completed.
On the 4th (local time), foreign media predicted that the presidential winner would be decided based on the election results in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia. If Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden wins in all these regions, he can secure victory. However, if President Donald Trump maintains a narrow lead in Georgia and Pennsylvania until the end of the count, Trump could win.
Looking at each region, Arizona, considered the biggest surprise in this election, is expected to be the first to confirm its results. Currently, Biden holds a lead of more than 3%. The New York Times (NYT) expects Arizona’s counting to be completed within the day. Some U.S. media have already declared Biden the winner there.
If Biden wins in Arizona, he will secure 264 electoral votes and will need only 6 more electoral votes to win the presidency.
Next, attention turns to Georgia. If Biden manages a comeback in Georgia, which holds 16 electoral votes, he could secure more than 270 electoral votes. Georgia’s counting process has been disrupted due to a broken pipe at the counting center. The Georgia government expects to complete counting by early morning on the 5th. Currently, Biden has 49% of the vote, trailing President Trump’s 49.8%. However, since the remaining uncounted ballots are from areas where Biden is strong, there is a possibility that the election outcome could be overturned.
If President Trump wins in Georgia, Pennsylvania will become the decisive battleground. Pennsylvania, with 20 electoral votes, allows mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day to be counted if received within three days after the election. Considering that all these ballots will be counted, the election result is expected to be confirmed only after the 6th. President Trump must win both Pennsylvania and Georgia to secure victory.
