Changwon City Joins Forces with Busan Port Authority to Develop Jinhae New Port

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam has strengthened cooperation with Busan Port Authority for the construction and operation of the 2nd New Port (Jinhae New Port).
Changwon City announced on the 3rd that it signed a "Business Cooperation Agreement for a New 100 Years" with Busan Port Authority.
The agreement ceremony held at City Hall on the day was attended by Changwon Mayor Heo Seong-mu, Busan Port Authority President Nam Ki-chan, and others, promising timely construction of the 2nd New Port and efficient port operation.
The two organizations cooperated to support the development of the 2nd New Port and to promote national port development and regional competitiveness by fostering port logistics professionals linked to the port and expanding job creation.
Busan Port is the world's 6th largest container handling port, processing 21.99 million TEU of containers, and is the world's 2nd largest transshipment hub port. The 2nd New Port is planned to be constructed by 2040 with 21 berths.
The city explained that the 2nd New Port is planned to accommodate ultra-large vessels of 25,000 TEU class and aims to leap forward as the world's 3rd largest smart logistics hub port.

Changwon Mayor Heo Seong-mu stated, "Through this agreement, the two organizations will contribute to the development of the national port logistics industry, and the city will strive to advance as a Northeast Asia port logistics center in line with the development of Jinhae New Port."
