Songpa-gu Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival Achieves Pinnacle Award for 9 Consecutive Years 'Great Success'
Awarded in 3 Categories at Korean Competition on October 23... "Preparing Next Year's Daebaekje Festival as a Global Event"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) announced that its representative festival, the ‘Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival,’ won an award for the ninth consecutive year at the 14th Pinnacle Awards Korea held last month on the 23rd at the Daejeon ICC Hotel.
The Pinnacle Awards, hosted by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA WORLD), is known as the world festival Olympics, an annual competition that discovers and awards competitive festivals worldwide.
The Korean competition’s award ceremony serves as a preliminary round for the U.S. finals. Over 30 festivals nationwide participated, submitting more than 100 contents from festivals held last year. Awards were given in nine categories including promotional design, representative programs, media relations, main programs, multimedia, and special programs.
Among these, the Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival received the Gold Award in the promotional design category, the Silver Award in the main program category for its representative event, the Historical Culture Street Parade, and the Bronze Award in the special program category for the falconry experience, which was very popular among children.
The Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival is based on the relics and artifacts from the Baekje Hanseong period 2,000 years ago, which began in Songpa, allowing participants to experience the brilliant historical culture of that time. It has been recognized as an excellent festival both domestically and internationally, winning the Pinnacle Award for nine consecutive years since 2012 and the Korea Festival Content Award for five consecutive years since 2016.
In particular, this year, despite the COVID-19 situation, the district received positive evaluations for hosting the ‘2020 Ontact Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival.’ Held online and non-face-to-face for five days from September 23, the festival featured 11 programs including an online parade, photo contest, and online experiential games, attracting over 40,000 participants and presenting a new direction for festivals.
Mayor Park Seong-su said, “I am pleased that the ‘Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival,’ representing Songpa, has once again been recognized for its competitiveness as a world-class festival,” adding, “Based on this year’s experience, next year’s Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival will be prepared as the ‘2021 Great Baekje Festival’ together with Baekje cultural cities nationwide, striving to become a global festival leading the changes of the times.”
