Steel Association Participates in 2020 Industry-Academia Project Challenge Hosted by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea Iron & Steel Association is participating in the '2020 Industry-Academia Project Challenge' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy by selecting five outstanding projects from 56 industry-academia projects conducted under the high value-added metal materials specialized workforce training project, for which the Steel Association is the lead organization.
The '2020 Industry-Academia Project Challenge' is a contest hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology to discover excellent industry-academia projects carried out by participating researchers (master’s and doctoral students) involved in the Industry Innovation Talent Growth Support Project.
Eligible participants are students who have conducted industry-academia projects under the Industry Innovation Talent Growth Support Project. They can apply by selecting outstanding projects from those conducted between 2019 and 2020, with a maximum of five projects allowed per business.
During the above period, the Steel Association selected five outstanding projects, including 'Development of Multiscale and Multiphysics Computational Analysis Models for Improving Mechanical Properties of Metal Materials' conducted by a Seoul National University student, through the first round (internal review) and second preliminary round (external review) from 56 industry-academia cooperation projects performed by participating students in the high value-added metal materials specialized workforce training project, and applied to participate in the 2020 Industry-Academia Project Challenge.

The projects participating in this challenge will undergo integrated evaluation by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology in November, selecting 10 grand prizes, 10 excellence awards, and about 80 participation awards. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 17. The grand prize winners will receive the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award and prizes worth approximately 2 million KRW per team; the 10 excellence award winners will receive the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology President’s Award and prizes worth approximately 1 million KRW per team; and participation awards will be given as prizes worth approximately 50,000 KRW per individual.
